A SUPPORTING ROLE
Regular sports massage is beneficial whatever your endeavour or level of sport. It helps alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body’s soft tissues during physical activity. It’s application can stimulate or relax the body, and reduce symptoms of overuse such as stiffness and pain.
INJURY RECOVERY
Where minor injuries occur, due to overexertion and/or overuse, massage can quicken and promote effective healing, thus enabling a speedier return to activity and optimum performance. Massage improves circulation to the affected area to facilitate the restorative process and gentle stretching of the tissue helps it to realign muscle fibres and reduce adhesions and scar tissue, whilst mobilisation helps restore full range of motion.
INJURY PREVENTION
The application of massage enables muscles to become more pliable. Improving elasticity allows a wider range of movement which prevents over-stretching the muscle fibres. In addition, postural and movement analysis detects imbalances, and once detected this can be corrected to prevent worsening of the problem and restore balance.
NOT JUST FOR THE SPORTS PERFORMER
Anyone can benefit from sports massage, including people in physically demanding jobs and those who experience occupational, emotional and postural stress – in fact anyone with bodily strains and pains!
Sports massage uses a combination of techniques, knowledge and advice during treatment, to work effectively with the client.
OVERALL HEALTH
Massage treatment can also prevent additional problems developing, where the body may compensate for the injured or overused areas, and can treat specific conditions, maintain good health and pre-empt problems before they arise. It is also simply a means for relaxation!
improved flexibilty
The stretching and relaxation of muscles increase their flexibility and joints become more mobile.
IMPROVEd PERFORMANCE
Toxin build-up is flushed out of tired muscles and the increased blood flow improves energy supply.
INJURY RECOVERY
Muscles are rehabilitated by aiding healthy tissue formation and improved blood and lymph flow.
PAIN REDUCTION
Pain relief is enabled with the relaxation of muscles and reduction of stress hormones.
